Redland Rose / Kurupayrá

Redland Rose / Kurupayrá      Pronounced:  ku-ru-pa-y-rA   (u as in put)
(Piptadenia rigida)

Being of the same family as Pepperwood / Kurupaý, this is a very durable wood.  The grain is straight and even with few growth rings visible.

Other common names
Curupayra, Curupay-ra, Kurupay-ra.

Specifications
Unfinished, 3 1/4" x 3/4" "Shorts" solid hardwood flooring.  Lengths range from 12" to 36" with some long boards up to 84".
This species is being discontinued so quantities are low.
No stains used.
Prefinished 3 1/4" x 3/4" no longer available.

Lengths
The lengths on this flooring can be considered shorter than normal which results from a lot of natural defects being cut out of long boards to provide wood with no worm holes or mineral staining.  An average length of 29" to 34" is common with lengths ranging from 9" to 84".

Color change over time
There is very little change in color or appearance of this floor over time though it may become just a little darker over the years.

Finishing
This wood is easy to finish and does not require any special treatment.  The yellowing effect of oil-based finishes adds life and warmth to this light red wood.  To prevent the yellowing effect use a water-bases finish.

The finish on this floor is Waterlox Gym Finish, which is a modified tung oil.  It has a high luster and adds a distinctive yellow tinge to the wood.
