Green Ironwood / Lapacho

Green Ironwood / Lapacho      Pronounced:  la-pA-cho
(Tabebuia heptaphylla)

Appearance
Green Ironwood has a general olive brown hue, often with lighter yellowish or dark green stripes.  The grain varies from straight to irregular with quite a bit of figure showing in several pieces.  Do not confuse this species with Ipe, which is related to Green Ironwood but comes from Brazil.

Other common names
Pau d'arco, Taheebo, and Ipe roxo.

Specifications
Unfinished 3 1/4" x 3/4" solid hardwood flooring.
No stains used.
This flooring is not available in a prefinished product.

Lengths
An average length of 35" is common with lengths ranging from 12" to 84".

Color change over time
Over time the overall green tone changes to a more brown appearance.

Finishing
We suggest using 2 coats of lacquer sanding sealer such as Harco and then at least 2 coats of oil or water-based polyurethane such as Duraseal.  Do not use an oil-based finish directly onto this wood, as it will not dry.  Test the finish you plan on using on some scrap boards before applying to the installed floor. Confirm with your installer/finisher before using any of these suggestions.
